SD Housing / Develop Housing / Available Development Programs / DakotaPlex
Across rural South Dakota, communities are facing a shortage of quality, affordable housing. DakotaPlex was created to meet that need with a solution that is both attainable and built for long-term impact. DakotaPlex units are built by the prison inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield. Units are based on the Governor's Houses and are two and three-bedroom units to be used as a duplex, triplex, or quadruplex. Designed specifically for communities with populations under 5,000, DakotaPlex makes it easier for local leaders, developers, and organizations to bring new housing to life—without unnecessary complexity.
