Organizations Invited to Apply for FY26 Continuum of Care Funding

South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium (SDHHC) is announcing a funding opportunity through Fiscal Year 2026 Continuum of Care (CoC) grants. Funding is available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Continuum of Care Program and awarded through a competitive process.

The Consortium is particularly interested in seeking applications from organizations equipped to operate Transitional Housing and Supportive Services projects, including street outreach teams and drop-in services for individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Funds allocated to South Dakota that are not awarded will be returned to the national funding pool and made available to other Continuums of Care across the country. HUD has indicated it plans to publish the FY26 Notice of Funding Opportunity on May 29; however, details regarding project application deadlines to the Consortium and the Consortium’s submission deadline to HUD have not yet been released.

What is the Continuum of Care Program?
The CoC Program is a federal grant program administered by HUD to support housing and case management services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Grants are awarded annually through a competitive process and may be renewed each year. Applicants must request a minimum of $50,000, with no maximum award limit. All grants require a 25% match from non-federal sources, which may be cash or in-kind contributions.

Who can apply?
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status, units of government, public housing authorities, faith-based organizations, Tribes and tribal housing authorities. Prior CoC funding experience is not required. Applicants may request funds for leasing, rental assistance, supportive services, and operating costs. Recipients may also request up to 10% of the budget for administrative costs.

A free informational webinar covering the application process will be held on June 11, at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. More details and the Teams webinar link are available at https://www.sdhousing.org/all-events/continuum-of-care-fy-26-funding-competition-webinar

The Consortium has published its policy and applications for the local competition at https://www.sdhousing.org/housing-for-the-homeless/coc-documents#gsc.tab=0. Interested applicants are encouraged to act quickly to gain access to the e-snaps application platform and should contact CoC Administrator Joseph Tielke joseph@sdhda.org for technical assistance and further instructions.
