South Dakota Organizations to “Stand Up for Housing” During Week of Action

Community organizations across South Dakota will participate in Stand Up for Housing, a weeklong series of events taking place November 17–21, 2025, designed to raise awareness about homelessness, housing needs, and community-driven solutions across the state.

Coordinated by the statewide Housing for the Homeless Consortium, Stand Up for Housing encourages local agencies to host a variety of public events—including open houses, site tours, service projects, and meetings with community leaders. These events aim to highlight the work being done to prevent and end homelessness in South Dakota and to foster dialogue between providers, public officials, and the broader community.

Events during the week will vary by community, with participating organizations choosing formats that reflect their unique services, priorities, and partnerships. In some locations, local or state leaders will be invited to visit programs firsthand and learn about housing challenges directly from service providers and residents. By lifting up the work already happening in every corner of South Dakota, the campaign hopes to build understanding and reinforce the shared responsibility of safe, stable housing for all.

Confirmed events will take place in Rapid City, Pierre, Sioux Falls, and Yankton, with additional communities expected to join. A full list of scheduled events and participating organizations will be posted on the South Dakota Housing (SDH) website.

Organizations interested in hosting an event during Stand Up for Housing are encouraged to submit an event participation form.

To view scheduled events or submit a form, visit the event webiste.

The Consortium also encourages members of the public to explore its project-level homelessness response data, available through an interactive online dashboard.

About SD Housing for the Homeless Consortium

In 2001, the South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium was created to help unify the people who provide services to the homeless. Throughout the years this group has been able to identify gaps, create programs and services that have helped communities address homelessness and keep their citizens safe. Since its initiation the Consortium has received federal funding totaling over $39 million to provide development, operations and supportive services to a variety of homeless programs across the state.
