SD Housing Expands Governor's House Eligibility Through Updated Income Limits
More South Dakotans may now qualify to purchase a Governor's House following action by the South Dakota Housing Board of Commissioners. Effective June 15, 2026, household income eligibility for the Governor's House program increased to 100% of the State Median Income, currently $103,400.
The change comes as housing construction costs continue to rise faster than household incomes, creating affordability challenges for many prospective homebuyers. By increasing the income limit, SD Housing aims to expand access to affordable homeownership opportunities for our hard working families through the Governor's House program.
"Wage growth has not kept pace with rising construction costs in recent years, making homeownership out of reach for many South Dakotans," said SD Housing Executive Director Chas Olson. "By adjusting the maximum AMI level, more households will have acess to attainable homeownership opportunities through the Governor's House program."
Individuals interested in purchasing a Governor's House can find information about eligibility requirements, income limits, financing options and participating lenders at www.sdhousing.org. Prospective buyers are encouraged to contact a participating lender to discuss their financial situation and available financing options before working with a Governor's House sales representative.
